Mac App Store

Why Iris isn't on the Mac App Store yet.

A quick note on something you might be wondering about.

Iris has been reviewed and approved by Apple for the Mac App Store. So why can't you find it there? It's a decision I've made deliberately, and not one I take lightly.

The short version: Mac App Store review currently takes five to seven days, consistently. By comparison, App Store review on iOS is often same-day, and sometimes turns around in just a few hours.

That difference matters more than it might seem. When a bug slips through, I want to fix it and get the fix into your hands quickly. When I build a feature worth shipping, I'd rather you have it this week than next. A five-to-seven-day wait on every single update means I can't move at the pace I want to, and that's not the experience I think you deserve.

So, at least for now, I'm choosing to release Iris directly instead. You can download it straight from this site, and updates will reach you as soon as they're ready, without waiting in a queue.

I'll be honest: I'd love for Iris to live on the Mac App Store one day, and I'm hopeful that turnaround times will improve. If they do, I'll happily revisit this. Until then, thank you for your trust and your patience.
