About

A photo library, made with care.

Iris is built by Retina Studio — an indie Mac software studio in Richmond, Virginia.

Hi, I'm Tyler

I've been building Mac software for most of my adult life — and photographing my family the whole way. Iris started more than five years ago as a nights-and-weekends attempt to answer one question: why can't I explore a lifetime of photos without handing them to a cloud?

Retina Studio is just me. That means when you email, I answer. When something breaks, I fix it. And when you trust Iris with your memories, that trust lands on an actual person who takes it personally.

Why Iris exists

Photos used to live on your Mac. With Iris, they still do.

Your library is already here — in the folders you've kept for years, on the drives you've carried from one computer to the next. It doesn't need to go anywhere else to become useful.

So I built a lens rather than a container. Iris reads what you already have — read‑only — and adds face recognition, maps, timelines, and search that finds the text in your pictures and the speech in your videos.

Nothing is moved. Nothing is renamed. Nothing is uploaded.

Your photos, on your machine.
